BMAT – The biomedical Admissions Test is used to assess applicants wishing to study Medicine at university is becoming increasingly competitive, and universities now find it hard to distinguish between the thousands of candidates who apply with top grades. The BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT) is a subject-specific test taken by those applying to read certain medicine, veterinary medicine and related courses in the UK. The BMAT is a 2-hour paper test split into 3 sections:

Section 1: Aptitude & Skills

Skills Tested Questions Time
Generic skills in problem solving, understanding arguments, data analysis & inference. 35 multiple-choice questions 60 minutes

Section 2: Scientific Knowledge

Skills Tested Questions Time
Applying scientific knowledge typically covered in school Science and Mathematics by the age of 16 (up to GCSE or IGCSE level). 27 multiple-choice questions 30 minutes

Section 3: Essay Writing 

Skill Tested Questions Time
To select, develop and organise ideas, & communicate them in writing, concisely and effectively. One writing task from a choice of 3 questions 30 minutes
