Vietnamese known locally as tiếng Việt is spoken in Vietnam and among expat populations especially in the USA, Australia and Europe. There are 75 million native speakers with over half of country aged under 30, this dynamic country is expected to grow along with its language. As a member of the Austroasiatic family of languages , Vietnamese vocabulary originated from traditional Chinese characters. An older alphabet derived from the mandarin is called chữ nôm. Following the influence of French on Vietnamese, a modern alphabet was derived and is in use at present called quốc ngữ. This is a Latin rich alphabet with the addition of accents, and diacritics, along with the addition of certain letters.
