Alongside multilevel tests such as IELTS (link) , Cambridge English Qualifications also offer levelled exams that are based on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference) that range in aptitude from A1 to C2. These Cambridge English exams are divided into three categories, schools, general and higher education and business. Whilst the exams vary in format depending on the type of qualification, all of the Cambridge English exams test each of the four English skills; reading, writing, listening and speaking. It is worth noting that unlike some other English proficiency assessments, the speaking element of Cambridge English Assessments are conducted face to face with an examiner.

Cambridge English Schools

Firstly, there are an extensive list of assessments designed for school-aged students. These examinations are therefore focused primarily on ensuring that young English learners are given the best start to English learning as possible and are less focused on grades. The exams are designed to help students to improve their language skills and are levelled from Pre A1 to C2.

Cambridge English General and Higher Education

Cambridge Assessment also provides a series of more general examinations which can be a great choice for those who wish to pursue higher education. These exams, which are accepted around the world by academic institutions, are designed with a focus on real-life experiences. These exams are held in levels A2, B2, B2, C1 and C2. For those wishing to take an English proficiency exam to gain entry onto a higher education course, the Cambridge C1 Advanced is the most common assessment to choose to take. For more intense studies or PhD level education, students may choose to take the more advanced C2 Proficiency assessment. Although the format of the assessment can differ depending on which level is being taken, typically each of the four core English language skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) are assessed in a separate paper for each.

English Business Lessons

Cambridge English also have exams of B1, B2 and C1 level English that focus specifically on Business English for those who wish to cultivate a more specialised English proficiency level. The assessments use real-life business scenarios which enables candidates to develop their understanding of Business alongside their English language level. For candidates who take the B1 Business Preliminary assessment, the qualification demonstrates that they are able to converse successfully using basic business language. The B2 Business Vantage qualification is focused on everyday business tasks in an international business and is specifically useful for those wishing to develop their career further or perhaps are applying for new jobs The C1 Business Higher qualification demonstrates that candidates are able to confidently operate in English at a senior level within the global business field.
