Hindi Tutors & Hindi Lessons
Hindi is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by hundreds of millions of people across the world, the vast majority of which live in India. Estimates of native speakers range from 180 million to 487 million; the latter figure is likely to include a variety of dialects besides Standard Hindi. Standard spoken Hindi is closely related to Urdu, the official language of Pakistan, through shared grammar and vocabulary, although the writing systems are different. Hindi has a rich literary heritage, dating back to the medieval period and borrowing heavily from Ancient Sanskrit and Hindustani. Our Hindi tutors can help you achieve proficiency in this language.
Modern Standard Hindi is now taught widely in schools and universities. The Hindi alphabet, known as ‘Devanagari’, is the common standard and is also used in Nepal. It is derived from Sanskrit and the letter order is based on phonetic principles with vowels, consonants, and a wide-ranging order of biconsonantal conjuncts. Hindi is among the world’s most widely adopted writing and reading systems. In addition, loanwords from English in Hindi make the language easier for native English speakers.
India is a powerhouse in technological innovation and is set to become the world’s third-largest economy by 2030 with its rising population of 1.4 billion. Learning Hindi is useful for people who want to conduct business in India, as it is the official language used for bureaucratic, governmental and judiciary processes. While English is also commonly used in India, learning business-related vocabulary in Hindi lessons across the topics of accounting, finance and economics will connect you to the consumer masses in India.
A fun way to practice the Hindi language is to watch Bollywood films. Bollywood is the name for mainstream Hindi cinema, based in the city of Mumbai. These films are known for their song and dance sequences and their lengthy runtimes (averaging at 3 hours per film), which means you can get hours of Hindi listening in. Bollywood films are only one aspect of the richness of Indian culture, that has birthed major religions such as Hinduism and Buddhism, which feed into daily life, architecture and social customs.
Currently, Cambridge provides an IGCSE in Hindi as a Second Language which covers reading, writing, listening and speaking. There are also online and in-person Hindi language exams offered at the Central Hindi Training Institute, which has full and parttime centres across India.
